Gloria Godwin-Thede

Gloria Jean "Babe" Thede, daughter of William Henry Fister Jr. and Lillian Alice Robinson Fister, was born January 1, 1928, near Spring Lake, Grand Junction, Iowa, and died July 7, 2007 at her home in Perry, Iowa, at the age of 79 years, 6 months, and 6 days. Being the youngest of 17 children, she was lovingly called Babe. Her family lived in Paton, Webster City and the Jefferson area. Much of her childhood was spent helping at home and she finished her education at Jefferson High School. Gloria married Edward Godwin in 1946 and they lived in the Paton, Webster City, Churdan, and Jefferson areas. She had 4 sons: Jim, Johnnie, Joe, and Jeff: and 5 daughters: Jessie, Jacqui, Joyce, Jannetta, and Jeannie. She had worked at American Athletic and was a CNA at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. Gloria married Doyle Thede in 1971. Gloria and Doyle lived in Greene and Dallas Counties before moving to Perry. Gloria worked as a medication aide at the Woodward State Hospital, Rowley Masonic Home, Perry Manor and then entered private nursing. She had to retire in 1988 after a work injury. Gloria's hobbies included fishing, camping, reading and playing cards. She was preceded in death by her parents, her 16 brothers and sister; one infant son Johnnie; one grandson, one granddaughter, and her husband Doyle in 2002. Gloria is survived by her children: Jessie Custer and husband Bob of Jefferson, Iowa; Jacqui Mentzer and husband George of Jefferson, Iowa; Joyce Davis and husband Eddie of Jamaica, Iowa; Jim Godwin and wife Jane of Jefferson, Iowa; Joe Godwin of Perry, Iowa; Jannetta Miller and husband Roger of Amarillo, Texas; Jeannie Liggett and husband Randy of Perry, Iowa; and Jeff Godwin and wife Jewel of Amarillo, Texas. Gloria is also survived by 24 grand children, 30 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends
