Glenard Wedemeyer

Glenard "Glen" Henry Wedemeyer, son of Gustav Frederick Wedemeyer and Hilda Langbehn Wedemeyer, was born March 31, 1933 and lost his battle with cancer December 23, 2004, at the age of 71 years, 8 months and 23 days. Glen was born on a farm in rural Adair County where he was raised until the age of 12. The move took them to Casey, where they lived for a time before returning to the farm. Glen attended Casey Public Schools until 1949. At the age of 18, he attended the Minneapolis Technical Institute for Watchmaking. He then went to work as an apprentice to a watchmaker in Greenfield. He continued working as a watchmaker in Adair and Eldora. While working in Eldora, he met Donna McBroom. On December 7, 1958, Glenard was united in marriage to Donna at the Methodist Church in Kellogg, Iowa. They were the parents of two children: Michael and Mark. The family made their home in Eldora before moving to Adair. In 1978, he opened a jewelry store in Jefferson and the family made their home there in 1981. Glen also kept busy working as a jailor for the Jefferson LEC, a custodian at the Lutheran Church, and most recently made deliveries for Trigenix. Glen enjoyed his fellowship with fellow Christians, spending time on his farm and with his family. His favorite past-times were going to garage sales and going on walks. Glen was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where he was on the Board of Trustees and also a member of the Fellowship Society. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers-in-law Kenneth Powell and Kenneth Kriens; and nephew David Powell. He is survived by his wife Donna of Jefferson, sons Michael Wedemeyer and his wife Stephanie of Marshalltown, and Mark Wedemeyer of New York, New York; three grandchildren: Kelsey and Brian Wedemeyer of Rippey and Cassidy of Marshalltown; three sisters Joan Kriens of Casey, Ruth Powell of Adair, and Betty Krogh of Creston; four sisters-in-law: Norine Beaty of Akron, Ohio, Maxine Purvis and her husband Floyd of Kellogg, Patricia Jeffreys and her husband Russell of Olathe, Kansas and Phyllis McBroom of Cedar Falls; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
