Fern R. Johnson

April 2, 1915 - October 18, 2007

Fern R. Johnson, daughter of William Schweitzberger and Sarah Rice Schweitzberger, was born April 2, 1915 in Kingsley, Iowa and died October 18, 2007 at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry, Iowa at the age of 92 years, 6 months and 16 days. Fern was the 4th of 11 children. Fern attended rural school and graduated High School in Pierson, Iowa. She was united in marriage with Clarence Johnson in ALbert City, Iowa. Fern adn Clarence were parents of three children, Gary, Carol, and Robert. They farmed in the Pierson area before moving to Stuart where they ran a skating rink, restaurant and gas station. In 1953 the family moved to Perry, but onctinued to run the skating rink in Stuart until 1956. Fern stayed busy working with her husband, working at J.C. Pennys for many years, and also working at the Elks as a waitress. Fern loved to bowl and enjoyed her league memberships up until her 85th birthday. She also liked to sew, crochet, and do other handwork. Fern was a member of mt. Olivet Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence in 1993; son-in-law, Harold Kuehl in 2002; brothers, Walter, ernie, Grancis, Kenneth, and Harold; sisters, Viola and Pearl. She is survived by her daughter Carol Kuehl of Woodward; sons, Gary and wife Sharon, and Robert and wife Illene; 11 grandchildren, Ivy Kepley(Mike), Melodie Johnson, Todd Johnson(Jennifer), Julie Smeltzer(Churck), Jill Danner(Dave), Jane Johnson, Jason Johnson(Debbie), Scott Kuehl(Barb), Brad Kuehl, Robert Kuehl(val) and Staci Kuehl; 23 great-grandchildren. Fern is also survived by her brother, Ralph Schweitzberger; sisters, Violet Keller, and Marvel Nagel(Roy); nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
